Monthly Funding

Active
40000 INR /month

This money will help me dedicate roughly 6 hours of my time every day on FOSS and open-data development without worrying about financial burdens or personal hardware maintenance costs. It will help me take my transit datasets forward, allow me to make more contributions to the projects I am involved in, and get involved in even more projects.

Projects (10)

PMPML GTFS

MIT-0

A transit dataset built atop an open standard for PMPML buses that operate in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. It takes data from the public information system PMPML uses to translate data into a compliant dataset that can be further used downstream in transit related use cases.

gtfsbusdatasetopen-data

Hubli-Dharwad BRT System GTFS

MIT-0

A transit dataset built atop an open standard for HDBRTS company buses that operate in Hubli-Dharwad and surrounding regions. The open standard it is built atop allows this dataset to be used further downstream, in tools like catenary-maps or transitrouter, or for research studies.

gtfsbusdatasetopen-data

Ahmedabad GTFS

MIT-0

A transit dataset built atop an open standard for AMTS and AJL buses that operate in Ahmedabad and surrounding regions. The open standard it is built atop allows this dataset to be used further downstream, in tools like catenary-maps or transitrouter, or for research studies.

gtfsbusdatasetopen-data

Mumbai GTFS

MIT-0

A transit dataset built atop an open standard for BEST, KDMT, TMT, and VVMT buses that operate in Mumbai and surrounding regions. The open standard it is built atop allows this dataset to be used further downstream, in tools like catenary-maps or transitrouter, or for research studies.

Davangere GTFS

MIT-0

A transit dataset built atop an open standard for KSRTC buses that operate in Davangere city. The open standard it is built atop allows this dataset to be used further downstream, in tools like catenary-maps or transitrouter, or for research studies.

Rajkot GTFS

MIT-0

A transit dataset built atop an open standard for RRL buses that operate in Rajkot and surrounding regions. The open standard it is built atop allows this dataset to be used further downstream, in tools like catenary-maps or transitrouter, or for research studies.

BMTC Platforms

MIT-0

This web app allows searching and navigating many bus stations in Bengaluru from your phone. This tool currently covers 10 BMTC bus stations in Bengaluru. We conducted field visits to reflect the ground reality of these sprawling bus stations, and made our data available in a separate repository with a defined schema. The current version of the app shows live data when available, where the bus travels, searching by destination location (not just bus stops), and viewing your current location.

Live Airport Bus Tracker (Livebus)

MIT-0

The folks at Bengawalk and I were interested in adding live bus information to their existing Bengaluru Airport Bus website. This culminated in a different web app for tracking the location of the next bus to the airport / city. This web app allows tracking of the next bus to the airport, the next bus to the city, with live data when available. It currently tracks over 100 buses over 15 bus routes, with granular historical data used to build predictions when live data is not available or spotty. This service uses the GTFS and GTFS-RT open standards, allowing it to be ported to other cities with little issues.

Majestic Bus Station Navigation

MIT-0

The team at Bengawalk were redesigning physical boards at the BMTC Majestic Bus Stand, Bengaluru. We made a companion web app that allowed searching and navigating the bus station from your phone. This tool currently sees over 400 unique daily users. This web app allows searching for destination bus stops, filtering the platforms at majestic as well as showing the routes to take from those platforms. It supports voice search and shows your current location on the map as well.

Transitrouter

MIT

Transitrouter is a project Vonter started when he forked busrouter.sg (made by cheeaun). It originally only supported data from Bengaluru, however it now supports data across India, along with some data from other nations. I have worked extensively with Vonter to see commuter rail, metro, and other networks visualised accurately on transitrouter, as well as added data of 5 cities to the project. I plan to contribute more to this project to see more features, as I am also a frequent user of this tool.
